Snapshot of project

ObjectivesBeneficiaries
In 2018 an MoU was signed between Unimi and Amrita University, an Indian academic institution of excellence. In November 2019 a bilateral meeting was organized in Milano between officers and researchers from the two institutions, in order to identify potential research and educational areas to be jointly developed. A convergence emerged on the study of Ayurveda e Yoga, included by WHO among the traditional systems that contribute to global health promotion, and investigated in a wide range of scientific studies. The Indian Ministry of AYUSH, that presides over the organization and planning of the educational, research and clinical initiatives related to the traditional healthcare systems currently practiced in the country, is actively promoting the development of centers devoted to the study and dissemination of related knowledge and practice in other countries.
Based on these premises, we are planning to launch a Coordinated Research Centre devoted to the multidisciplinary study of the Indian traditional systems Ayurveda and Yoga. The Centre will be open to collaboration with Indian and international academic and research institutions. The multidisciplinary competences already available in Unimi and the synergy with Amrita University will allow for the development of collaborative projects and for the joint application to calls for grants.
These projects will involve different activity typologies, based on the contribution of different Departments at Unimi:
(1) extract preparation, investigation of the composition and reproducibility of Indian herbal medicines, and evaluation of their environmental sustainability (ESP).
(2) optimization and characterization of farmaceutical  formulations, evaluation of regulatory aspects in the commercialization of Indian herbal products in Europe (DISFARM);
(3) investigation of the nutritional features of food supplements, bioavailability and biological activities of their active principles, evaluation of their efficacy in health promotion interventions (DeFENS);
(4) development of integrated clinical protocols for the treatment of chronic and progressive diseases (DEPT);
(5) analysis of herbal products as potential alternatives to antibiotics in animal health promotion (VESPA);
(6) study of the economic, social and cultural implications of the perception and use of traditional healthcare systems in India and abroad (SMeLST);
(7) analysis of the representation of traditional healthcare systems in Indian classical texts and artistic works (DiSLFL).
Indian and Italian population first, EU and rest of the World indirectly.
